Durabla® Valve Installation
At Triangle Pump Components, our Durabla® valves are built for superior service, and with the right fit and proper installation, you can be sure that your pump valve runs like new for years to come. The units are carefully designed for efficient, easy installation with minimum disassembly required.
Follow along with these steps to ensure the safe, proper installation of your Durabla® pump valve:
- First and foremost, make yourself aware of all federal and state safety and environmental regulations and be sure to follow them throughout the installation process.
- As a safety precaution, make sure the pump’s power source is completely turned off, locked out, and tagged before starting.
- The pump ports must be clean and free from foreign matter, rust, or corrosion before beginning the installation. Clean and dry the tapered part of the valve seat as well.
- The diameter and taper of the valve seat and the pump port must be matched accurately. Place the valve unit into the pump port and press down with the palm of your hand. This will show whether the tapers are matched without the possibility of “binding,” which can occur if the unit is slightly off-level.
- Do not strike the stud or disassemble the unit. Instead, use the Durabla® installation tool — a pressing block or seat wrench depending on your valve style — and fit it over the stud. You can tap the valve lightly with a hammer or mallet but under no circumstances should you use a sledge or heavy blow of any kind directly on the valve.
Note: A properly fitting valve seat will be “home” with light tapping. Pump action will seat the unit precisely and firmly by equalized liquid pressure. - Before giving the job a final OK, try lifting the valve member to make sure it is free and clear of any obstructions. The seat should project out of the port far enough to allow complete freedom of the valve disc, and to provide metal stock for subsequent re-facing to compensate for normal service wear.
- Check to make sure there is ample clearance between the periphery of the valve disc member and the chamber walls to prevent physical contact, and also to assure sufficient area for liquid flow.
Once you’ve completed these steps, your pump valve is ready for use. It is important, however, to perform routine maintenance checks to repair or replace any components including the valve disc, spring, sleeve, locknut, or bolt as necessary. Regular maintenance will optimize performance and extend the overall lifespan of your pump valve.
